Emilie: her women empowerment internship in Rajasthan

INTERVIEWS

StepOut Abroad gave me a great opportunity. They helped me finding a humanitarian internship in India. This internship allowed me to approach the running of an NGO and gain experience in the development sector. It was a good time to consolidate my career plan and I wanted to do an internship in India because it would allow me to explore a beautiful country through an intense adventure.

It was an amazing experience where I discovered another country, a different culture and people from all over the world. This was my first time out of Europe. I faced many challenges once arrived: the strong heat, the language barrier, the new environment ... It took me a week to get used to the atmosphere of the city and the country. When I remember my stay in India I feel that time has passed so quickly and there is so much to discover. I hope to return to India again and relive those moments.

My internship was in an NGO that allowed me to observe the "real India" from the inside by going to villages to organize workshops. Women's empowerment is one of the most important challenges for Indian society and it is important to work for Indian women to have the same opportunities and rights as men. This experience has improved my self-confidence and it has been important to challenge me to discover something new, but I'm glad I did.

I also took the time to travel and discover this beautiful country, including Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, the most memorable visit of my stay and that I highly recommend to any traveler. Today I am really happy to have had the courage to decide to go to India for my internship. It has changed my life so much in such a short time. I hope I can come back one day.
